BIDDING PRAYERS

FIRST SUNDAY OF ADVENT

Priest:             On this First Sunday of Advent we offer our prayers to our Heavenly Father in hopeful expectation of His plan for our salvation.

Reader:          For the Church: that in the face of the challenges of today’s world, She will steadfastly proclaim the sure and certain hope of God’s promised redemption.

Lord hear us ……………………………….Lord graciously hear us

Reader:          For those entrusted to govern our society; may they always seek to promote the common good and remember their duty to support those who are weakest and most vulnerable in our community.

Lord hear us ……………………………….Lord graciously hear us

Reader:          For our country and our leaders in this time of political uncertainty; may God grant grace, wisdom and charity to them and all of us when we engage in discussions and express opinions on issues about which we have strong feelings.

Lord hear us ……………………………….Lord graciously hear us

Reader:          For those in failing health and those who care for them: may they experience hope rather than fear and face their challenges in the in knowledge that God walks with them.

Lord hear us ……………………………….Lord graciously hear us

Reader:          For families in our community; may the true message of Advent sustain them amidst the commercial pressures which bombard them during this time, and may our children receive what they truly need: the gift of love.

Lord hear us ……………………………….Lord graciously hear us

Reader:          Let us remember especially today (Bill Whittle, Jimmy Harrison and families Vigil Mass); (The Parish 9.30am Mass); (Tony Livesey 11.00am Mass) (Jack McGlynn 6.30pm) for whom this Mass is offered.

And also, all the faithful departed, (especially NN), and for all those who have died recently, may they be raised up on the last day.

Lord hear us ……………………………….Lord graciously hear us

Reader:          Let us pray for our own private intentions; (pause).   We ask Mary, our Mother, to intercede on our behalf: Hail Mary …

Priest:             Father, as we begin this new cycle of prayer we ask that you bestow on your people the virtue of hope as we wait expectantly for the coming of your Son, who is Lord for ever and ever,  Amen.
