BIDDING PRAYERS: 2ND SUNDAY OF LENT

Priest:             In the name of Jesus, who was transfigured while at prayer, let us pray now for the needs of all God’s people.

Reader:          For Pope Francis; as we celebrate the sixth anniversary of his election this week, we ask the Lord to continue to bestow strength and wisdom upon him in his ministry as the successor of Peter.

Lord in your mercy ……………………………….Hear our prayer

Reader:          Let us pray for our leaders of our country; may they be given the gifts of wisdom and understanding as they approach major decisions regarding the relationship of our country with the European Union and the wider international community.

Lord in your mercy ……………………………….Hear our prayer

Reader:          For those whose lives are affected by the enduring and painful memory of sexual abuse and physical violence; may their families, friends and supporters renew their trust and security in loving relationships. May all members of the Church be instruments of healing.

Lord in your mercy ……………………………….Hear our prayer

Reader:          For the victims of the terrorist attack in New Zealand; may peoples of all faiths and none work together to defeat hatred and bigotry in our society.

Lord in your mercy ……………………………….Hear our prayer

Reader:          For those who were involved in the plane crash in Ethiopia; may those who died rest in peace and those who mourn their loss be comforted.

Lord in your mercy ……………………………….Hear our prayer

Reader:          For our Parish; may we recognise the wonderful moments of the glory of the Lord when they occur in our lives.

Lord in your mercy ……………………………….Hear our prayer

Reader:          Let us remember especially today (Thomas Craven, Vigil Mass); (Roy Wilde, 9.30 am Mass); (Ann & Charles Sergeant 11am Mass); (The Parish, 6.30pm) for whom this Mass is offered.

Also, all the faithful departed, especially those who have died recently, including, Aileen Sumner, Dennis Towers, Philip Morris and John Rawcliffe. Lord, receive them into your kingdom.

Lord in your mercy ……………………………….Hear our prayer

Reader:          Let us pray for our own private intentions; (pause).   We ask Mary, our Mother, to join her prayers to ours: Hail Mary …

Priest:             Heavenly Father, we entreat you this day with these and all our prayers which we offer now upon your altar, through Christ Our Lord, Amen.
