BIDDING PRAYERS

1ST SUNDAY OF LENT

Priest:             The Lord hears our voice. In the midst of all our troubles the Lord hears us and, if we follow, will lead us to a promised land of peace. So today we bring all our concerns to the Lord:

Reader:          For the Church; That, led by the spirit to embrace prayer, fasting and almsgiving, the Church may learn anew that we do not live by bread alone.

Lord in your mercy ……………………………….Hear our prayer

Reader:          We pray for Pope Francis, may he lead us by example to set our hearts not on human insight but on divine wisdom.

Lord in your mercy ……………………………….Hear our prayer

Reader:          We pray for the work of Cafod and other aid agencies; may our Lent Fast Day next Friday raise both awareness in ourselves of those who are in need and funding for their many projects around the world.

Reader:          For the environment and our created world; may we always be mindful of our common ancestry as children of one God, and seeks ways to care for our home promoting a vision of justice and righteousness.

Lord in your mercy ……………………………….Hear our prayer

Reader:          We pray for those people who are caught up in gang violence; that they are able to find the help and support they need to make a better life.

Lord in your mercy ……………………………….Hear our prayer

Reader:          For our Parish; that, led by the spirit in the Lenten wilderness, we may encounter our demons and experience victory over temptation.

Lord in your mercy ……………………………….Hear our prayer

Reader:          Let us remember especially today (Elizabeth Prescott, Vigil Mass); (The Parish,  9.30 am Mass); (John James Rawcliffe 11am Mass); (Imelda Harrison, 6.30pm) for whom this Mass is offered.

And also, all the faithful departed, especially Dennis Towers, Philip Morris, John Rawcliffe, and those who have died recently, may they be raised up on the last day.

Lord in your mercy ……………………………….Hear our prayer

Reader:          Let us pray for our own private intentions; (pause).   We ask Mary, our Mother, to join her prayers to ours: Hail Mary …

Priest:             Loving Father, we place our trust in you. Hear and grant the prayers we offer today through Christ our Lord. Amen.
